How does a Tan Accelerator Work?
Tan accelerators work by stimulating melanin production in our skin to bring out our natural colour when exposed to the sun. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin its colour and the more melanin our skin produces, the darker our tan will become. The best two tan accelerators I have used are: 1 – Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion (400ml) 2 – Elemis Tan Accelerator (125ml & 400ml)
Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion (400ml)
The Gatineau Tan Accelerating Lotion is a beautiful lotion; rich enough to moisturise the skin but still lightweight to use during the summer months. It smells gorgeous and leaves a subtle sheen on the skin. During the summer months, I will use this instead of my normal body moisturiser.Main Ingredients:
- MAP (Melanin Activating Peptide) – stimulates the production of melanin
- Vanilla Extract – soothes inflammation
- Sweet Orange – conditioning agent with anti-oxidant properties
- Daffodil Extract – soothes the skin and alleviates discomfort
- Mélatogénine™ – restores and regenerates the skin (anti-ageing)
How to Use
Start applying 2 weeks before sun exposure. Apply to face and body avoiding the eye area and continue to use daily during and after sun exposure. Living in Cyprus, I start using my tan accelerator on May 1st, once a day and I keep using until October. I like to use it in the morning on my body and in the evening on my face but this is just my personal preference; as long as you apply once a day you will reap the full benefits of all it has to offer. This is safe to use during pregnancy although I will always advise to be responsible in the sun. Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, avoid midday sun, take regular sun breaks and enjoy the shade.How to Combine if Using Pregnancy Oils and Creams
This lotion is so quickly, easy and instantly absorbs, I like to use this now in the morning. I will apply my pregnancy body oils and creams in the evening after my shower as I like to take my time to massage them in.
Elemis Tan Accelerator (125ml & 400ml)
The Elemis Tan Accelerator is available in 2 sizes however the standard,regularly size is 125ml. For me, this is a great size to take on holiday but because I use them religiously once a day, I typically will not buy the Elemis 125ml. It makes more economic sense to buy the 400ml.Main Ingredients:

How to Use

Top Tips
- Use with SPF – Tan accelerator isn’t a replacement for sun cream; although some contain SPF they should still be used as an addition to our normal sun protection rather than an alternative.
- Mix in a little self-tan – Add a little self tan to the tan accelerator to start building a healthy looking glow.
- Exfoliate face & body once to twice a week – It is so important to exfoliate during the summer. By exfoliating we will ensure a fresh looking, even and healthy tan.
