Camellia (Tsubaki) Oil

For over two centuries, camellia flower seeds have been harvested from the Japanese island of Toshima, where each seed is handpicked and transformed into a nourishing oil. Very rich in essential lipids, Camellia Oil is one of the most rapidly absorbed oils. Traditionally, camellia oil has been used to promote shine and nourish the hair while maintaining the lipid barrier on the skin longer, which promotes skin health and hydration.

In Japan, Camellia oil is commonly used as a leave-in nourishing hair treatment. Geishas and maikos apply a lot for the distinct Japanese traditional glossy hair look they prefer. It contains high levels of essential fatty acids, which help replenish the skin’s barrier and prevent water loss, protecting it from UV and environmental damage.

How to Use

Shu Uemura Urban Hair Moisture Masque — Shu Uemura In-Salon Hair Treatment

Use the Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil, in any of the following ways:

Use as a styling aid. Apply 1 pump to your hands (a little goes a long way) and work through hair from mid-lengths to ends.
Use as a pre-shampoo treatment. Use 3-4 pumps and comb into dry hair before shampooing.
Use as a conditioning treatment. Apply 1 pump each to 4 sections of hair from mid-lengths through ends, and massage into scalp.
Apply to hair and leave overnight. Style as normal in the morning.

My Opinion

I was treated to a fabulous in-salon treatment at Artemiou Hair Designs in Limassol a couple of years ago. It felt incredible; pure heavenly indulgence for hair, mind, and spirit. My hair looked and felt soft and healthy after the treatment. Since then, I have used various Shu Uemura hair products but the product I reach for the most is this hair oil. It delivers shine, hydration, UV protection without weighing the hair down and tames any hair frizziness. A little goes a long way; I am on my second bottle. One bottle lasts me and my long hair approximately 12 months.
