Winter weather can be very drying on the skin. Cold weather and dry air strips the skin of moisture.
L’Occitane En Provence has the most amazing body care range for the winter months which are suitable for the whole family. It was so hard to decide which products to feature and because my list kept growing, I decided to split the products over two or even three articles because there is nothing else on the market like them.
Today I want to focus on the body and how shower oils keep our bodies hydrated in the winter months. What I love about L’Occitane is that that they make it so easy, even on those cold evenings when we want to shower and put on our pajamas as quickly as possible.
Shower Oils
Shower oils are perfect for the winter months. Unlike shower gels, shower oils are richer in texture, easy to rinse off and leave skin soft, nourished and delicately fragranced. Oil based cleansers are excellent for breaking down pollution, dirt and sweat on the skin. They work in the same way for our body as they do for our face. . They soothe, cleanse, moisturise and combat the drying effect of water on the skin.
Almond & Shea Shower Oil Collection (Unisex)
The L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil is a multi award winning beauty product. In 2013, it was awarded the Best Ever Body Wash award by Woman & Home Best in Beauty and is currently a Marie Claire LOVES product.
The Almond Shower Oil contains a combination of essential fatty acid ingredients; grape seed oil, sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil leaving the skin soft and hydrated with a delicate fragrance of crisp apple blossom and warming vanilla.
The L’Occitane Shea 10% Body Shower Oil is a new edition to the shea range; released in 2017. This shower oil is very softly fragranced; think new born baby smell. It is rich in shea butter and grape seed oil which means it will gently clean, nourish and comfort even the driest of skins.
Both these shower oils are the most hydrating, nourishing and comforting body washes of the L’Occitane range. Their unique formulas transform from an oil to a milk when mixed with water leaving skin gently cleansed and skin super soft to touch.
For me, you have not tried a shower oil unless you have tried L’Occitane. Most of the time, you will feel like you do not need to moisturise afterwards, that is how nourishing and hydrating their shower oils are.
Other ways to skin hydrated during the winter months:
Avoid very hot showers, baths and using saunas. Hot water strips the skin of moisture. Instead keep water at a moderate level.
Drink plenty of water – I know it can be hard to drink water. At the end of the day, it is tasteless, but it does so much good for our bodies. If it is too cold, try drinking warm water with a slice of lemon; this way you are hydrating and detoxing at the same time.
Get enough good fats. A diet low in good fats can result in dry, dull, flaky skin. Eating foods high in Omega 3, oil rich fish like mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines and anchovies feeds the skin with needed nutrients and has been shown to decrease skin inflammation. Cod liver oil, chia seeds, walnuts, flaxseeds and egg yolks are also high in Omega 3. Other healthy fats can be found in nuts and seeds; sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, pine nuts, flaxseeds and Brazil nuts are all rich in Omega 6 (Linoleic Acid).
Increase rich fatty acids in our diet – good sources are avocado oil and extra virgin olive oil.
Moisturise immediately after showering – apply your moistuirser to damp skin helps seal the moisture into the skin. My favourite body lotion is the L’Occitane Shea Butter Rich Body Lotion. I try many body lotions regularly; this is the only body lotion that I will go back to time and time again. I promise to tell you more about this product soon!
