Hermès is a French luxury goods house founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès. In 1880, they moved their shop to 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where it remains today and is still their flagship store. The company originally focused on equestrian accessories and evolved over time into leather handbags, scarfs, accessories, fashion, and fragrance.
The fragrance adventure began in 1951 with Eau de Hermès, a spicy floral fragrance, created by Edmond Roudnitska whose inspiration was the smell of fine leather from the interior of a Hermès bag. In 1961, 10 years later, came Calèche and since then the company has created a number of scents for both men and women, as well as unisex lines. There is even an exclusive line of fragrances that can only be purchased from the Hermès stores.
I have worn many Hermès perfumes over the year and the consistent running theme is that these are powerful fragrances; they are not fragrances for the person who wants to go unnoticed.
Twilly d’Hermès
Twilly d’Hermès was launched in 2017. This fragrance has been designed to represent the free spirit and the daring, lively, and youthful nature of a young woman. With notes of striking ginger and sensual tuberose, the scent for the Hermes girl is a floral, spicy, and exotic Eau de Parfum.
The base notes are vanilla and sandalwood.
The middle notes are tuberose, jasmine, and orange blossom.
The top notes are ginger, bergamot, and bitter orange.
The nose behind this fragrance is Christine Nagel who also created the fragrance Si for Giorgio Armani among others and is also the nose behind many of the Jo Malone London fragrances. “It is with young women in mind, by observing their lives, that I created Twilly d’Hermès. Free, bold, connected, mischievous and irreverent, they turn expectation on its head, swim against the tide, impose their own rhythm, invent a brand new tempo,” Christine Nagel.
However, I would disagree that this fragrance is for a girl or it wasn’t for me when I was a girl. This is a sophisticated fragrance and I know age is just a number but if I had to put an age bracket on this fragrance, I would say from the age of 28 to 48. I am now 38 and I am really enjoying wearing this fragrance but I do like bold, feminine, powerful fragrances.
With the first burst of Twilly d’Hermès, I can smell the white floral, fresh spice, tuberose, and the wood elements and as it settles, it is like being touched by a citrus powder. It is a unique and bold fragrance which is why I am enjoying it so much and this has been created through the unexpected combination of ginger, tuberose, and sandalwood. A hand-tied silk ribbon playfully adorns the bottle as the finishing touch.
I am reaching for this fragrance now and can see it being my perfect summer fragrance to take me from day to night.
In Cyprus, this perfume is available in Beauty Line stores and it is where I bought mine. It is available as a 30, 50, and 85ml Eau de Parfum.
