Bvlgari Perfume has its roots firmly in the jewellery business and this elegance is continued in the stylish packaging of their wonderful fragrances.
Greek jeweller, Sotirios Voulgaris, founded the Bvlgari brand in Rome in 1884 after moving there from Naples in 1881. Together with his two sons, Constantinos and Giorgios, Voulgaris opened the current flagship store for Bvlgari on the Via dei Condotti in Rome in 1905. It now shares this street with a veritable who’s who of global fashion brands, including Armani, Cartier, Gucci, Prada and many others.
The beautiful jewellery designs were popular with the rich, the famous and the higher classes. The unique combination of Roman and Greek influences was unlike anything else known at the time. International expansion of the brand was undertaken in the 1970s and included Paris, Monte Carlo, Geneva and New York City. Today Bvlgari operates more than 290 stores across the world.
The Bvlgari perfume line was founded in the early 1990s in Switzerland, powered by the vision of CEO Francesco Trapani, nephew of Sotirio Voulgaris. They launched their first fragrance, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, in 1992.
In 1995 the company was listed on Italy’s main stock exchange, the Borsa Italiana. It experienced considerable revenue growth over the next decade.
French luxury powerhouse LVMH (Louis Vuitton) acquired the Bulgari SpA (shared company) on 6 March 2011 for the astonishing sum of €4.3 billion.
Rose Goldea
After the success of ‘Goldea,’ Rose Goldea was launched in July 2016. Bvglari describes goldea as ‘An homage to gold and femininity inspired by the Goddess of Gold and the beauty of the sun.’ Rose Goldea is ‘inspired by the seductiveness, fascination and impassioned loves of Queen Cleopatra,’ the magnificent muse of the Jeweller-Perfumer. A bath of sensual white musk and precious damascene rose absolute, with the refinement of white incense encased in delicately-scented sandalwood.
The base notes are musk, olibanum, vanilla and sandalwood.
The middle notes are damask rose, jasmine, peony and peach.
The top notes are pomegranate, musk, bergamot and rose.
The nose behind this fragrance is the very experienced perfumer, Alberto Morillas, who is increasingly using pomegranate as a key note in his newer fragrances which brings an element of freshness which is perfect for this time of year. Although this fragrance is exquisitely blended, I am a little disappointed with this fragrance. I understand what Morillas wanted to create with this perfume but for me, it falls a little short. It does not have enough bite for my liking and does not last long on my skin. I bought the 90ml EDP and I have drained every last drop but I found myself re-spraying 2 to 3 times per day in order to build the scent on my skin.
If you are a rose fan like me but prefer something on the lighter side, elegant, soft and inoffensive then you will really enjoy this fragrance.
In Cyprus, this perfume is available in Beauty Line stores and it is where I bought mine. It is available as 50 and 90ml Eau de Parfum.
