I miss not being in the UK when there is a royal wedding. London and the nation are preparing to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get married at Windsor Castle this Saturday 19th May 2018. Generally speaking once May hits, it is officially wedding season, so today I would like to look at how to prepare the night before the big day.
The best pieces of advise I can give you the night before the wedding are:
- Try and relax as much as possible – Do anything that relaxes you like take a bath, read a book or watch a great film.
- Give your skin, face and body, a treatment.
- Drink plenty of water or coconut water – A hydrated skin always looks better, feels softer and creates a natural glow.
- Eat carefully and eat light – Do not be tempted to eat anything that may upset your tummy. Opt for light foods like salads, soups and fruits as they’re easier to digest and they’re good for your hair and skin too.
- Sleep – Go to bed at a reasonable time and sleep well. You need your energy!
How to Prep Your Skin for Your Wedding Day
Prepping your skin, face and body the night before your wedding is essential. Your skin will be glowing and it will also help with how your makeup applies and looks. A professional makeup job often only looks so flawless because of the preparation that goes onto the skin before makeup application.
For The Face
Cleanse – Make sure your skin is optimally cleansed is the first step in achieving that flawless makeup complexion and if you have a cleansing brush, use it.
Exfoliate – Exfoliating your skin, twice per week, is one of the most important things you should do in general and especially before applying makeup. Do not use anything too harsh and use something that you have used before. This particular night is not the night to be experimenting. By exfoliating the night before, skin will look healthy and more importantly smooth for makeup application.
Mask – Use a hydrating, lifting and/or radiance mask. It is not the night to use a cleansing clay mask as they can create a spot or two in the morning.
3 Face Masks I Would Recommend:
1 – DECLEOR PROLAGÈNE LIFT CONTOURING LIFT FIRM MASK – An anti-ageing 1-minute flash mask for firmer, more radiant skin.
2 – ELEMIS FRUIT ACTIVE REJUVENATING MASK – Ideal before special occasions to restore a glowing complexion, or when the skin is looking tired and dull.
3 – GATINEAU DEFILIFT™ 3D LIFT MASK – This is a professional salon secret for many years. This is all about tightening, firming and refining the look of the face, neck and décolleté whilst restoring resilience and power to facial features so they look perfect in the all important wedding photos.
TOP TIP – Use either the Decleor or the Elemis mask first and then follow with the Gatineau. Your skin will look fabulous and camera ready!
Tone & Moisturise – Once you have removed your mask, tone your skin to ensure the optimum pH level of your skin and then apply your usual night time skincare routine. Avoid anything too heavy for the skin.
For The Body
Scrub It Gently – Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells and dullness for face and body. Only include this step if you’ve been exfoliating regularly. Introducing this step to your skin on the night before might cause irritation if your skin is not used to it. Use a gentle body exfoliator.
Body Exfoliators I Would Recommend:
1 – L’OCCITANE ALMOND DELICIOUS PASTE BODY SCRUB or the VERBENA BODY SALT SCRUB – They are both gorgeous to use and create a fantastic result on the skin.
2 – ELEMIS FRANGIPANI MONOI SALT GLOW or LIME & GINGER SALT GLOW – They both exfoliate, smooth and soften the skin in an invigorating and nourishing way.
3 – THE BODY SHOP – SPA OF THE WORLD MEDITERRANEAN SEA SALT SCRUB – This indulgent scrub is high in natural minerals, leaving skin beautifully soft and contains coarse salt crystals for maximum exfoliation benefits. Be gentle with this one, don’t overly apply pressure.
Moisturise – You can continue in the same line that you used for the exfoliator or apply your favourite body moisturiser if you have one.
TOP TIP – Buy the body lotion in your wedding day fragrance and use on the morning of your wedding to make your fragrance last all day! On my wedding day I used Chanel Coco Noir, the body lotion first and then finished off with the Eau de Parfum. I wish everyone getting married an amazing wedding day. The day itself passes so quickly but the memories, well they last forever!
