Lots of you have been asking what I bought for the baby’s room, what is needed and is there anything that I bought that actually wasn’t needed.
Shops
It made sense to me to try and get as much as I could from one shop and make a list. My sister in law, Elena, really helped with this. She has two children and she helped us put the list together based on her experience. I would really suggest doing the same if you have a family member or friend with recent experience. By creating a list in one store, it allows family and friends to buy a gift that you need and it helps ensure that you have everything you need for when the baby arrives. For most of the baby room and baby equipment, we went to New Baby City store in Limassol. I have also bought some items from Mamatoto and Mothercare but only a few items in comparison.
Baby Furniture
For the baby’s room, we chose Casababy which is a company based in Athens, Greece and we chose the ‘Stars’ collection. Athina Eleni is my little star hence why I liked the concept so much. Many people refer to having a little girl as having a little ‘princess.’ I don’t like this; this is my personal thinking and feeling. I think it sends the wrong message to the baby from a very early stage whereas with the star concept, she can be a star in whatever she choses in life.
At the moment, Baby Kyriakidou is sleeping in her crib next to me which is from Mothercare but once she turns 3 months, she will sleep in her own room. From Mothercare, we bought our nursing chair. It is the most relaxing chair I have ever sat on and my husband has already said, once the baby is old enough, the chair is his!
The bedding for the cot and the crib is a mix from New Baby City and Mothercare.
Baby Clothes
All the baby clothes I bought were from Mothercare. I did not buy anything in ‘Newborn’ size but I should have as she was only 2.5 kilos and very small. However, she is now 2 months old and she has doubled her weight and comfortably fills out the 0-3 month size that I bought. I did not buy her lots of clothes as I am aware that they grow so quickly. I bought enough but not too much. From the gifts that we received after the birth, she has enough clothes to see her through until she is 12 months. I look forward to dressing her up.
Her towels, muslims cloths, blankets, flannels and bibs, the majority are from Mothercare but I have found recently a website in Cyprus which has beautiful baby products and made from organic cotton. I am slowly building up my collection for Athina Eleni. The website is called Okiddoky.
Baby Equipment For Home & Travel
I can say that everything we put on our baby list, we have used or will use very shortly. We did not go over the top and kept to the basics of necessity:
- Motorola Baby Camera and Monitor.
- Maxi Cosi Pebble Car Seat.
- Car Seat Base x 2 for both cars.
- Tony Love Meadow Days Dynamic Gymini Play Mat – which she loves and plays on most days.
- Fisher Price Butterfly Dreams – we haven’t used this yet as this is for her cot but she will from next month when she moves into her room.
- Philips Avent Electric Steam Sterilizer.
- Philips Avent Baby Bottle Warmer.
- Philips Avent Grooming Kit.
- Doomoo Breast Feeding Pillow.
- Tommee Tippee Nappy Bin.
- Tommee Tippee Breast Pump.
- Tommee Tippee Newborn Bottles.
- Baby Bath & Stand.
- Peg Perego Tatamia High Chair and Baby Relax – 2 in 1 which is genius living in a flat and being short on space.
- Bugaboo Bee5 Pushchair
We would like to say a massive thank you to friends and family for their generous gifts. We know that babies grow quickly and need more and more to play with but at the moment Athina-Eleni is 2 months old and it is more than enough.
